So today I moved into my flat for University and all my flatmates seem absolutely lovely. I am really excited to settle in properly and get to know new people.
I now have an official ‘Sense Of Self’ drawer under my new desk where I can keep all my wristbands, business cards, bank statements and other business paraphernalia together and in one place. Magic.
I will be updating all the Sense Of Self social media pages and keeping a close watch on the website and also any orders in between exploring more of the city and having a wild-but-not-too-wild time!
I’m now also beginning to focus more on the speaking and workshop side of business so if you think your school assembly needs spiced up or equally if you are a teacher and think your class could use a little extra encouragement and motivation then I actively encourage you to PLEASE get in touch via the website- http://www.sense-of-self.co.uk – as there is a special page for any questions or comments. (I’d love to hear from you)
Hope everyone is having a brilliant weekend 🙂
As a young entrepreneur I have found that the amount of help available is astounding. People want to help and support youngsters and encourage a ‘new wave’ of entrepreneurs. The journey I have been on has been a relatively smooth one and any issues or difficulties have been quickly overcome. However, as I am 17 I find that when it comes to spending/receiving money I am stuck. I was given a very generous amount of money as part of the Young Entrepreneur prize back in 2012 and have since opened my business bank account. This has not been a problem. I have been able to pay for things and really move towards officially launching a live website and selling designs. Although so far I’ve had to use my own personal account to pay for things and then write a cheque from my business account back into my own as the bank policy is that I cannot have a business debit card until I am 18 years old. (Which is less than a month away from now, but still…)
I am a young entrepreneur and a soon to be business owner, yet I have to write cheques to pay for things. I can use the internet of course, with services like Paypal etc… but wait, I have to be 18 to have a business Paypal account and supply them with the card details anyway! I am finding it increasingly awkward and difficult to get anything done without making the accounts look suspiciously messy with many payments to myself.
I think it is amazing that we have so much available for young people and for budding entrepreneurs of all ages yet when it comes down to the fine details everything begins to get tricky. I can understand there are policies and that rules can’t just be changed for one person but I truly believe that there is about to be a surge of young entrepreneurs and that there should probably be something done about this so that we are able to run a business in our own names and with our own bank accounts. The more we encourage young people to start up in business then the sooner this will be addressed I hope.
Do not fear, I will have my website up and running soon and will do my best to keep my books as tidy as possible until my birthday when I can finally receive a debit card and run my business properly!
IT’S SHOW TIME
I would like to take this opportunity to tell you all that I am (very ambitiously) hoping to host a kick-off event for Sense Of Self™ at the end of this month. The purpose will be to gather together a group of people who are willing to be ambassadors for Sense Of Self™ and also to celebrate the journey so far and hype up the excitement for the amazing things to come!
I am struggling to believe that it is already almost the middle of May. I keep setting myself deadlines for things then feign surprise when they creep up on me. There are only a handful of deadlines that I absolutely have to stick to no matter what as the rest are able to be pushed a little but I hope to stick to them anyway. My essential dates are May/June for a kick-off event, July (at the latest by the 15th approximately) to officially launch Sense Of Self™ and then I would have an official official launch party sometime in August! That may sound odd but my idea behind that is to have already successfully received and delivered orders so that we are celebrating the launch of a trading business (and so that it will be almost my birthday and I can have champagne…)
Before any of this though, it would be amazing to have more of a presence on Facebook and twitter. Ideally 500 likes/followers would rock so lets try and make that happen? I post really cool things 🙂
So my business cards arrived yesterday and I have 1000 of them! I really like how they have turned out and look forward to giving them out to as many people as I can 🙂
My aim is to be able to launch Sense Of Self™ this year! To be able to do this I need to build up a hype and get people talking about my ideas and excited about everything. Any help is much appreciated so please do tell your friends and family!
I’m still working on the website at the moment and it is going to be fantastic! I’ve added in a ‘video of the month’ section. I’ll link it to the TED Talks or any video that I have found uplifting and inspiring that month. I will be up for suggestions too!
I feel as though I have pushed the rock to the top of a massive hill and now every little step I take is about to give it that final push before it begins to gather speed and tumble down the hill. (I hope that makes sense it did to me I like metaphors??)
Anyway, back to work!
