Today I was designing the t-shirts for my Sense Of Self Ambassadors (which are really awesome by the way!!!) and I was thinking about the fact that it is very nearly pre-launch party time which means it is also very nearly launch time too!
I’m pushing to launch Sense Of Self over the summer so that I can give my full attention to making sure everything runs smoothly and then can focus positively on University when I get there. My goal is to have Sense Of Self developing throughout my time as a student so that when I finish University I have a ready-made job and an ever growing business to support myself and avoid the panic of “I have a degree but there aren’t any jobs” and hopefully be able to offer jobs to others and build a Sense Of Self team.
But yeah today I remembered where the initial inspiration for Sense Of Self came from. It was because I always dreamed of being an art student and going to art school but then the closer I found myself towards the stage of my life where I had to make a decision, I realised that art is my hobby. Drawing is fun for me. I like to paint whatever inspiration throws at me. I do not enjoy being restricted and told what to do because creativity is a freedom and a form of expression and I wanted it to always stay that way for me. I want to feel like an art student without having the pressures of being an art student.
Back to business. My dream for Sense Of Self is that it will give others opportunities to find an idea that excites them and run with it. I want to show the world that you can absolutely live the life you always dreamed of. I want to start as an example of this and watch the world take notice.
Before I get carried away though we have the pre-launch party. Getting close, exciting!
Ah it’s been almost a whole year since I became the young entrepreneur of the year. Wow.
This week I have a lot going on. I’m working on a new design inspired by music, and I plan to have it finished tonight ready to be printed tomorrow. I want a new one to showcase on Friday.
What’s Friday, you ask?
Well. Well well well, Friday is when the competition starts again and I’ll be interviewed and guest speakers will speak and of course I have to take every chance to market!
Going to be brilliant. And I think I could be ready (almost) to get everything moving and *gasp* become a business-woman. Hmm.
I’ll post a photo of the t-shirt when it’s all done. Ahhhh.
Notes and thoughts and ideas spinning around in my head. Today I feel motivated. Hopefully tomorrow I shall turn some of these notes into paintings. I like the drawings I have done but I also think if I painted my ideas, that would look kinda cool too. We’ll see. My inspiration is following an old retro route, like vintage things that I can pin quirky phrases to.
Recently I have been really excited by ink and pen drawings. I have a bottle of ‘non-clogging, pigmented, waterproof calligraphy ink’ with a dippig nib pen and then like, a gazillion biros. I like drawing with fine line pens and making it look sketchy or smudging the ink with water and letting it fade over the page. So some of my recent design ideas are very monochromatic and linear.
As a side project (not related to the business) I have drawn out my plan for a big painting on a canvas (not very big actually) but I have promised myself that I will TAKE MY TIME because I am guilty of rushing.
I start college in September but my induction day is in 8 days- aah!
Wish me luck…
Well I have finally created a blog-page for my business-to-be, ‘Sense Of Self’. I actually decided on the name today and I love it, because my business is all about being comfortable with who you are, having a sense of who you are and helping people feel good about themselves. (S.O.S being the international symbol for help, as I help people to find their sense of self. Clever, huh?)
For those of you who don’t know, I won Young Entrepreneur of the Year 2012, with my business idea to combine my love of art with my joy of helping boost others’ self esteem. With this page I aim to keep everybody updated with my plans and what’s going on and what I’m doing.
Originally this was a small idea in the back of my sketchbook, inspired by my Mum, actually. She loves motivational stuff and has always toyed with becoming a Life Coach. I had drawn a skull and thought it would be funny to draw braces on the remaining teeth. I have braces myself and after a small discussion and some ‘braces’ puns, my first idea was born. That evening it was put back in the drawer and I thought nothing more of it. When I heard about the Young Entrepreneur of the Year competition, it first appealed to me as the presentation would give us a day out of school. It was listening to the successful business-people there that really inspired me to enter. So I did. Everything after that moved super fast and I drew up some other ideas to bring to the final, and now, here I am.
With this business I am trying to tackle the confidence issues that young people face, because as a teenager myself I am literally living inspiration. I myself have braces and freckles, at one time had glasses, and still have SUPER curly brown hair. As teenagers we are practically programmed to feel bad about ourselves an with stereotypes and all that malarkey, we really have quite a lot to deal with- not to mention the pressure from the media! Anyway, I have loved art since forever and I’m due to start college this September to do an art course and I have a job for over the summer in the Scottish National Gallery (of art) which is like heaven for me.
Anyway, I have a selection of designs right now that I’m working on and a few finished, so shall keep you posted!
